Despite growing discussion about applying blockchain backed systems to a variety of activities (like securities settlement many people I have spoken to (including those in the financial industry) have no idea how a blockchain works. That is, how a blockchain backed system can provide trust without having large central parties taking on counterparty risk during a transaction. I have attempted to clear this up by explaining bitcoin.
Looking through the Ashley Madison email dataset, I noticed a surprising number of users registered with employee email addresses. Here’s a list of the top 20 Fortune 50 companies ordered by number of employee emails registered on Ashley Madison.
The Monty Hall paradox is named after the host of the TV game show “Let’s Make a Deal”. In the game, players are presented with three doors. One door has a new car behind it while the other two each have a goat behind them. The player is instructed to select a door. After the player makes their selection, Monty opens one of the two remaining doors to reveals a goat. The player is then given the choice to change their selection to the remaining unopened door or stay with their previous selection.
